Not really a crime story

This is a somewhat interesting family story and social commentary but it is completely mislabelled as a crime investigation. There was, and apparently is, no evidence to speak of, so Larrison is forced to spend long periods examining and refuting what amounts to nothing more than baseless speculation. Nor, for all the commentary on the investigative process, any real suggestion that crucial evidence was overlooked, missed or concealed. It seems very likely the most widely suggested “suspect” is indeed the perpetrator but no less certain this will never be proven. Moreover, it seems pretty sure that the unprovability of this case was clear when the podcast project began. Hence one wonders, its basic enjoyability notwithstanding, why this podcast series actually needs to exist.
