In The Dark

A very difficult true story told so well. Listening to what these families went through is heartbreaking. But it is a story that must be told. And your team did an excellent job!

Unfortunately, there seems to be very little objectivity. Rather, there is a clear bias on the side of their pre-existing beliefs. I wouldn’t call this ‘investigative’ journalism, but sensationalism and narrative driving.

The first episode was strong but as the episodes continued I was getting confused by the repeat info and at some point this lady’s 12 year old voice started losing me. Her age is not listed on line which is always odd. She physically looks my age but her linked in says something different. Had she been more competent with details and her analysis I may not have noticed but telling the viewer that voting for sheriffs is a bad thing was the beginning of the end. I want direct democracy like Switzerland. I trust the elected people who appoint people FAR less. And then she said a few more inane things (I know her producer/editors write the scripts but as the reader you give final approval). I only listen to podcasts when I drive so don’t have exact quotes but there was something she countered with in essence ‘oh so you mean no parking tickets’ vs murders etc’. It was so stupid. Anyhow, I used to read The New Yorker but not anymore (I am a New Yorker btw). I know these days they hire the under 30 year old crowd because they’re cheap but people 40+ aren’t interested. I’ve started re-reading books in my library. It’s the only sane way to proceed. Infrequently there is some quality show on HBO or the French Channel but mostly not when you burn through those shows in 3 weeks.

I just finished listening to the Season 2 series about Curtis Flowers and have not been able to get it out of my head! The reporting on this story and the Haditha story is so deep, it’s unimaginable how many hours were spent researching for these exposés. This is so so good! Could not recommend more!!!!
